This evening, I participated in the Clever Girls Collective Twitter Party sponsored by Izze. It was so fun talking about different wedding ideas and experiences. One of the questions mentioned buffet vs. plated dinners. One of the trends I’ve been seeing lately is weddings being catered by a food truck! Now the food truck craze is huge down here in LA/OC. We stalk them on Twitter to find out where they’ll be. There’s a meeting of food trucks at Cerritos High not far from my house every week. I haven’t been yet, but I’ve been threatening. I have, however, experienced the Buttermilk Truck on several occasions and my oh my is it delicious.
So what are some of the food truck options you have in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas you ask?
Baby’s Badass Burgers
If you’re doing a more modern wedding, laid back and casual, Baby’s Badass Burgers is going to be a great option. Everybody loves burgers, and Baby’s has it all! They have beef sliders, turkey burgers, curly fries, sweet potato fries, all the fixings and even drinks. This would be a great option for summer beach weddings. Talk about a cook out!
Bollywood Bites
Looking for some ethnic cuisine? Look no further than Bollywood Bites. They have options for vegetarians and vegans as well! With chaats, curries, thaali, and bombay snacks, your Indian themed wedding can be a blast! They also have Lassi and Masala soda. I’ve never tried Indian food but I hear it’s delicious. Bollywood Bites is part of the SoCal Mobile Food Vendor Association, but their website says they’re based in North Carolina. Worth looking in to.
The Buttermilk Truck
Here’s my pride and joy: The Buttermilk Truck! My mouth salivates at the mention of it. The Buttermilk Truck brings you breakfast at any time of day. This would be a great way to switch things up at your wedding. My favorite is their red velvet pancake bites, which have chocolate in the middle. GOOD GOD! So delicious. They have their famous buttermilk brick sandwich, and also a fried chicken and gravy sandwich. Your guests would definitely love this truck.
Coolhaus
Maybe you don’t want dinner catered, but a different spin on dessert. Enter the new aged ice cream truck Coolhaus. We’re not talking 31 flavors here. They have homemade ice cream, melt in your mouth cookies, and even custom edible wrappers you can put your wedding information on. They’ll even work with you, providing kosher, non-dairy, and vegan options for their ice cream sandwiches. They have a truck and a table service. Your guests won’t soon forget!
Don Chow Tacos
Are you a fan of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives? I certainly am. If so, you’ve probably seen Don Chow Tacos before. This certainly isn’t your typical beef or chicken dish. Don Chow has Chinese Mexican fusion cuisine. Is your stomach rumbling yet? Where else do carne asada and Kung Pao Chicken mix? You can have tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and bowls. This truck could easily make your wedding an event to remember. It may sound offbeat, but the food is right on.
Flying Pig
Heard the saying “when pigs fly”? They do now! The Flying Pig will give you more options than traditional catering menus have at regular wedding venues. They were featured on the Travel Channel and the Oprah Show. The Flying Pig has options for tacos, burritos, and burgers. You can choose multiple meats like carne asada, spicy chicken, duck, tofu, shrimp and more! You can choose their catering menu or a la carte options.
The Grilled Cheese Truck
This one got one of the chat participants fired up, and I can’t blame here. The Grilled Cheese Truck is a favorite amongst many! I am a self proclaimed grilled cheese connoisseur. I’ve had grilled ham and cheese from just about everywhere I go out to eat. This truck gives you so many cheese options: American, Cheddar, Brie, Habanero and more! There’s a lot more additions like bacon, smoked turkey, tomato soup, pickles, and even graham crackers. Give your guests the ultimate comfort food!
Truck Norris
What’s better than Chuck Norris? Truck Norris! Packed with Hawaiian, Filipino, and fusion food, you can’t go wrong with this truck. Favorites like pork belly sigsig, Sheppard’s pie, and Lumpia smores, Pacific Island themed weddings can’t go wrong with this food truck. Ribs, tacos, and burgers? Why aren’t you contacting them right now? Give your guests a roundhouse kick of flavor, if you know what’s good for you.
These are just a few, and I know you want to know what other food trucks there are out here. There’s a list of members of the SoCal Mobile Food Vender Association. If you’ve been to a wedding with food trucks, tell us about it! If you’re thinking about it, check them out.
This is fabulous! Now I get it! Thank you for the awesome post. Love this idea for the fun-loving couple!
Thanks Lesli!
GREAT article Briana. If you can make your wedding unique, affordable, and fun then go for it. We planned our wedding reception between lunch and dinner…to cut down on catering costs.
